Switzerland is the happiest country in the world, according to the 2015 World Happiness Report published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network on April 24.
Seven of the top 10 spots were taken by countries in Western and Northern Europe. Eight of the 10 least happy countries were countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, while the other two spots in the bottom 10 were occupied by Afghanistan and Syria.
The report has been published annually since 2012 aiming to measure the happiness of people in different countries and to use this as a guide forgovernments' public policies.
Rankings were assigned based on six indexes: real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy,having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices, freedom from corruption, and generosity.
