Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, topped the list of 100 Richest Technology Billionaires from Around the Globe issued by Forbes magazine, with a net worth of US$79.6 billion. He is also the richest man in the world.
Americans occupied more than half the spots with 51 people. However, Asia tycoons performed very well with 33 people on the list. Moreover, 40 of the top 100 live in California, home to the well-known Silicon Valley.
Chinese tech tycoon Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, ranked No.7 with US$23.2 billion. A total of four Chinese tech tycoons were in the top 20, including Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi and Robin Li, CEO of Baidu.
Almost all of those listed are self-made billionaires.The total value of the 100 billionaires reached US$842.9 billion.
Women are still rarities, with only seven listed.
