More than 70 percent of young people in China experience some pressure from parents who hope they will settle down in marriage, according to a new report.
The China Youth Concern Committee surveyed 1,000 people aged under 40 from cities in more than 30 provinces. Overall, 70 percent of respondents said they had experienced some kind of parental pressure. However, 86 percent of respondents aged from 25 to 35 said they faced the strongest pressure on marriage.
A total of 76 percent said having a small circle of friends was the biggest reason keeping them single as they either worked or stayed at home.
In order to solve strong pressure from parents, many young people choose to rent fake mates who will accompany them home for holidays.
