Akamai, a content delivery network (CDN) service provider, has recently released its Q1 2016 State of the Internet Report, providing a view into today's online trends.
On a global basis, the average connection speed increased 12 percent quarter on quarter and 23 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2016, to 6.3 Mbps. The global average peak connection speed reached 34.7 Mbps.
South Korea has internet connection at 29.0 Mbps, the fastest in the world, with an increase of 8.6 percent over the fourth quarter of 2015.
All of the top 10 countries and regions saw gains in average connection speed, especially Chinese Hong Kong, which witnessed the largest quarterly increase at 19 percent to 19.9 Mbps.
