A think tank from the China Center for Information Industry Development has published a ranking of 100 Chinese counties or county-level cities based on their economic development.
Kunshan is now the most economically competitive county in China, and the top three are all dominated by counties in Jiangsu Province.
Most cities on the list are located in east China. Zhejiang, Shandong and Jiangsu are the three provinces with the largest numbers of counties with strong economies, with 26, 22 and 17 counties respectively in the top 100 list.
Covering about 3,000 counties and county-level cities in China, the ranking is based on four dimensions including economic strength, level of economic development, people's livelihood and economic vitality.
This is the first ranking of its kind published by the think tank.
