In 2018, the number of wealthy Chinese families grew 1.2% year-on-year to 4.94 million, according to the Hurun Wealth Report 2019 released on Nov. 19.
Wealthy families refer to households owning assets of at least 6 million yuan, according to the report.
The total assets of wealthy families in the Greater China zone was 128 trillion yuan. Around 80% of the assets are owned by mainland families.
Beijing is home to the largest number of wealthy families, with 704,000. Shanghai is second, followed by Hong Kong.
