6. Xintiandi (Shanghai)
Xintiandi is located in what was once Shanghai’s French Quarter. It is a car-free shopping, eating and entertainment district.
There is an area of traditional mid-19th century shikumen ("stone gate") houses lining narrow alleyways. Some of the houses are book stores, cafes, restaurants and shopping malls. Xintiandi has an active nightlife
It is also the location of the site of the first national congress of the Communist Party of China on Aug. 2, 1921.
