James Hillier Blount, better known by his stage name James Blunt, was born Feb 22, 1977 in Hampshire, England. Before James Blunt became a musician, he spent four and a half years in the military, with six months in Kosovo as part of the peace keeping force.
In 2003 he was spotted by music producer Linda Perry who signed him to her Custard label. His third single You're Beautiful, made it all the way to number one on the U. K. singles chart, and remained there for five weeks. The album Back To Bedlam soon followed and quickly became one of the biggest selling records of the year, remaining ten consecutive weeks at number one.
Since then he has sold over three million records, which made him the first UK artist March 2006 and topped the US singles chart since 1997.
Blunt won two BRIT Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, and by 2006 was nominated for five Grammy Awards. His repertoire can be best described as a mix of acoustic-tinged pop, rock and folk.
