Ice sculptors from Finland and Latvia, are welcoming Santa Claus and the Christmas season with a beautifully made ice palace. The winter wonderland is currently on display in front of the commercial and entertainment center in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Six men worked for six days to create a 4-meter high palace out of 200 blocks of ice.
But ice sculptor Kimmo Frosti from Finland said the biggest problem was the warm weather.
Kimmo Frosti, Finish ice sculptor, said, "We have been working here six days doing this ice palace from 200 blocks of ice, there were six guys working. The problem was weather, it was very hot in the day time, just plus five, so we need to wait some times until the evening, that blocks froze together. But we still hope that it makes a winter feeling, Christmas feeling for the peoples in Lithuania."
Saint Nick came all the way from his home town of Rovaniemi in Finland, to open the palace and to greet children.
Santa Claus, Lapland, Finland, said, "I hope that in future life is coming better and better all in Europe and in Lithuania, also. If children will make a good work in schools and they believe the parents and they go enough early to sleep and eat food very well, then they can be sure, that in future they have a good life."
Inside the palace, an ice bar has been built where visitors can buy soft drinks.
The ice palace, with a price tag of around thirty thousand euros will be on display until January 6th.
