The Beijing College Student Film Festival wrapped up on Saturday with an awards ceremony at the capital's Olympic Sports Center. Twenty-one awards were presented to some of China's budding film talents.
The 17th Beijing College Student Film Festival attracted 155 domestic film entries in the competition round, with 39 progressing to the final round.
Young actress, Yu Hongfei, won the Best First Work honor for her debut directing effort, "Romance of the Afterlife". The Most Popular Actor and Actress awards went to Huang Xiaoming and Zhao Wei. Wilson Yip clinched the award for Best Director for his kungfu epic, "Yip Man Two".
Best Actor and Actress honors respectively went to Huang Bo for "The Cow", and Tao Hong for "Fragrance of Rice". The coveted Best Film award was bagged by spy thriller, "Sound of Wind".
The festival's judging panel comprised of leading academics and experts, who scrutinized artistic quality and depth of thought. In addition to major blockbusters, low-budget productions and culture-oriented movies earned award nominations, as well as stories about ethnic minorities, coming of age, social issues, and documentaries.
The Beijing College Student Film Festival upholds the slogan of "Youthful Passion, Academic Taste, and Cultural Awareness." In doing so, the festival has become distinguished for its rigorous demand for artistic quality and has cemented its solid reputation among academics and cinema-lovers alike.
