The tourism industry in Guangzhou is already benefiting from the upcoming Asian Games. The event hasn't even begun, but hotel prices are higher and vacancy rates lower.
150 thousand foreign visitors and half a million Chinese are expected to converge on Guangzhou during the Asian Games, which open November 12th. With such huge demand for accommodation, most hotels - especially those close to the Games center - were already fully booked two weeks ago. Room prices surged between 30 and 100 percent. But that hasn't dampened enthusiasm.
The Asian Games and Asian para games are expected to lift Guangzhou's tourism revenue to a new high in 2010.
