The Libyan National Transitional Council has welcomed the International Criminal Court's arrest warrants for Muammar Gaddafi, his son and his intelligence chief.
The NTC head Mustafa Abdel-Galil hailed the ICC's decision. He said justice has been done with Gaddafi's arrest warrant for his crimes against humanity. He also said that "If anyone hides him, they will be tracked down and brought to justice." He went on to say that Gaddafi was responsible for many terrorist attacks throughout the world. Meanwhile, celebrations erupted in the rebel-held city of Misrata after the ICC issued the arrest warrants. People waved rebel flags and flashed victory signs in the streets.
Huda Al-Hajj Mohammed, Misrata resident said "We've been waiting not from the beginning of February, not from the beginning of this revolution, but from 42 years ago. And I hope justice will prevail and everyone will be happy."
Saleh Ali Saleh, Misrata resident said "I think the court's decision was correct, and it reflects the catastrophe of the Libyan people for the past years."
The European Union has also welcomed the International Criminal Court's decision to issue arrest warrants for Muammar Gaddafi and two of his family members for alleged crimes against humanity.
