Haining City of East China's Zhejiang Province is famous for its annual tidal bores and leather products. But few people know that it's one of the cradles of Chinese martial arts. Louis Cha, a.k.a. Jin Yong, China's most famous and influential martial arts novel writer, was born here. Based on this background, a cultural industry park with a martial arts theme is planned for the city over the next three years.
The Duke of Mount Deer, a TV series adapted from Louis Cha's novel "The Deer and the Cauldron" was a hit with audiences in 2008. And many of the scenes were shot in Haining.
Lin Yi, Mayor of Haining city, said "Mr. Louis Cha's novels are a great contribution to the society. Haining is his hometown, and we are very proud of him. We respect him and we want to interpret his novels in films and TV shows in his own hometown so that his works can be enjoyed by more people."
To develop its martial arts industry, the government of Haining City signed the cooperation agreement on building Haining Martial Arts Industry Base with a film-production company on November 7th. More than 30 organizations plan enter the base. The film company's general manager Zhao Yifang says there are many participants because of the production base's superior geographical position, long history, and the Haining government's comprehensive services and preferential policies.
Hao Yifang, General Manager of Zhejiang Huace Film and TV CO.,LTD. said "The government established a management committee and a special center to invite and attract outside investment. They also organized a special team to push this industry forward."
According to the blueprint, the base, with the Yanguan old city as its core, will cover an area the size of 190 football fields. With a film studio, a museum for Louis Cha's martial arts works, a martial arts themed restaurant and a celebrity studio all built on the base, the Haining Martial Arts Industry Base promises to comprehensively show the Chinese martial arts culture.
