The synchronized swimming 2011 FINA World Trophy here in Beijing has come to a conclusion, with China collecting an overall silver medal on Sunday.
A total of nine teams participated in the team combo, the last event to compete. Routines at the World Trophy are judged solely on artistic merit and rules allow for original costumes and accessories.
Canada sent its national `B’ team to the event, while Spain, the United States, Italy and Egypt sent `A’ teams. Brazil sent its junior squad, while Russia and China each sent club teams. The Chinese entry, who swim out of the Water Cube in Beijing were the last to take to their home pool.
Spain would end up impressing the judges the most, on their way to the gold medal. Canada came in second while the Chinese team would take the bronze. The final of the five events of the event leaving Spain as the overall champions and China, the second placed finisher, while Canada rounded out the top three.
