The "Bird's Nest" may have been built to immortalize China's realized Olympic dream, but on Saturday night it also helped test the magic of music.
Pop star Wang Lee-hom kicked off his 2012 world tour here. And his legions of fans had no trouble filling most of the 90,000 seats of the venue.
And he was proud to announce that history was being made.
Wang said, "That song's from my first movie. And everyone has been asking when my second movie will be made. Now I can tell you "Just now". You may have noticed many cameras scattered around here. I'm gonna record this historic moment. And everyone here, both on and off the stage, will be key actors in it. "
The night featured a mix of Wang's best-loved love ballads, old and new. Known as a singer-songwriter and versatile instrumentalist, Wang has sold about 15 million records since his debut album 17 years ago.

It was his second performance in the "Bird's Nest". He was impressed by the iconic architecture when he performed at the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
He said the Bird's Nest is always challenging and tempting.
Wang said, " The moment I stepped in the stadium in 2008, I was astounded by its size. I have been singing in so many stadiums, but never as large as this one. Seeing 100,000 people waving their hands and singing also with me, I could feel my blood boiling. But also because of its unprecedented size, we must come up with creative ideas to get the audience closer to the stage, including making a movable stage and applying the most state-of-the-art multimedia technology. "
Still Wang promised his music will be the same wherever the stage is.
Wang's global music tour in 2012 will take him to other Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Nanning and Wuhan.
