A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has hit off Taiwan's eastern coast early Sunday morning, according to the island's meteorological authorities.
The epicenter was monitored 70.2 kilometres southeast of Yilan county, at a depth of 62 kilometers. There have been no immediate reports of any casualties or damage to property. Earthquakes occur frequently in Taiwan, which lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin.
