Large parts of China have seen torrential rainfall recently. So far, the downpour has caused 76 deaths, while 30 others are missing.
Since last Friday, 23 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China have been battered by heavy rains, from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the northwest to Fujian and Zhejiang provinces in the east.
Mudslides and flooding triggered by the rains have affected nearly 10 million people. About 36,000 houses were toppled and nearly 1.5 million hectare of crops were destroyed. It has caused economic losses of more than 11 billion yuan.
Local governments are now strengthening flood-relief efforts and urging relevant authorities to increase supervision to minimize losses.
