The 13th tropical storm of the year, Kai-Tak, is approaching coastal areas of South China's Guangdong Province. The national disaster relief authority issued a fourth-level alert on Wednesday.
Kai-Tak is moving northwest at a speed of 15 to 20 kilommeters per hour. It's predicted to hit the coastal areas of the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian. It’s expected the Pearl River Delta will see rainfall of up to 400 millimetres.
Meteorologists have advised coastal authorities to recall ships, reinforce outdoor structures, and evacuate workers from offshore oil platforms in anticipation of the storm.
