US president Barack Obama is projected to have won re-election after a tight race with Republican rival Mitt Romney.
Obama has a projected 274 electoral votes, while Romney has 201 electoral votes. Obama took the lead after being the projected winner in the crucial battleground of Ohio, and then winning both Iowa and Oregon.
270 electoral votes are required to win.
