As the United States and Russia have agreed on an initial timetable for destroying and removing Syria's chemical arms, fears are easing that the US is preparing for an imminent attack. But the conflict between Syrian government forces and rebels continues unabated in the war-torn country.
Syria government forces have regained control of the village of Maaloula from rebels. The village is northeast of the capital Damascus. Journalists from Russia Today visited Maaloula where fighting has been particularly harsh.
When the journalists are about to leave, their car was attacked by rebels. They had to hastily get out of the car, leaving at least one journalist injured.
The almost daily fighting is a reminder that this two-year plus civil war, has no end in sight. For the millions of Syrians displaced, peace is still far away.
