Yet while the discovery of the debris could provide clues to the fate of MH-370, the key to solving the mystery of the missing plane is ultimately finding the aircraft's black boxes.
The process to locate the items however may prove to be very difficult. After a plane hits water, its black boxes give off a beacon signal every second for thirty days. But the batteries on MH370's black boxes died in June 2014, meaning they ran out over a year ago. The condition of the boxes is also unknown. If they are damaged, it could make analysis difficult. Australia has been leading search efforts for the plane in the southern Indian Ocean since March 2014.
