The fourth day of competition is coming to an end and much of the attention was focused on the swimming pool as the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, had a chance to win his 20th gold medal when the 31 year-old American lined up for the final of the men's 200 meter butterfly.
This is the first individual final of the Rio Games for Phelps who is competing in his fifth Olympics. The American in lane five would lead throughout the race with Chad le Clos on his right and Japan's Masato Sakai close behind. Phelps would touch the wall first with Sakai in second while Hungary's Laszlo Cseh takes the bronze.
19-year-old from USA grabs second gold in Rio
It would be a close contest in the women's 200m freestyle between Katie Ledecky of the USA and Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom, who won the 100-meter butterfly two days ago. But this time it would be Ledecky who coming out on top to claim her second gold medal of the Games. China's Shen Duo finishes in fifth place.
World champion finishes semi-finals in 12th place overall
Chinese swimming sensation Ning Zetao had his work cut out for him in the semi-finals of the men's 100 meter freestyle. And the reigning world champion would end up finshing in sixth place in his heat and 12th overall which would not be good enough to reach the final. Nathan Adrian of the USA would have the fastest time.
