A massive flash mob highlighting Chinese and U.S. culture took place Monday on the Ellipse lawn in front of the White House to celebrate the 2016 China-U.S. Tourism Year.
Hundreds of participants joined the event. It also featured Chinese martial arts, traditional Shaoxing opera, Chinese folk dances, Western ballroom dances, and other local opera performances.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama declared 2016 "China-U.S.Tourism Year" during Xi's visit to Washington last September. Chinese and U.S. governments have adopted a series of measures to boost tourism through events such as this one.
China is now the fourth largest source of overseas tourists to the United States, while the United States has become the third largest source of tourists to China.
