China appreciates DPRK's commitment to realizing denuclearization of Korean Peninsular

China on Tuesday expressed appreciation over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s commitment to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and its adherence to realizing the goal through multilateral dialogues including the six-party talks.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks in response to questions on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue.
During a meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday, DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il said that through the DPRK-U.S. bilateral meeting, the hostile relations between the two countries must turn into peaceful ones, and the DPRK was willing to attend multilateral talks, including the six-party talks, based on the progress in the DPRK-U.S. talks.
China has always supported the DPRK-U.S. bilateral dialogue aiming at increasing mutual understanding and trust, and believed all sides should adhere to the six-party talks and make joint efforts for the early resumption of the process, Ma said in a statement.
Ma said China's position on the Korean nuclear issue was consistent and clear, and it was the consensus of all parties to realize a nuke-free Korean peninsular and safeguard the peace and stability of the Northeast Asian region through dialogues and consultations.
"The six-party talks is an effective mechanism to achieve that goal," he said, adding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsular concerned the interests of all relevant parties and required common efforts.
"China is ready to, as always, work with the DPRK and other relevant sides to make positive contribution for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsular and the peace, stability and development of northeast Asia," Ma said.
