Afghan President Hamid Karzai expressed his deep sorrow and condolence over the sudden death of Polish President and his entourage on Saturday, a statement released by his office said.
"President Karzai expressed his deep condolences to the Polish people, to the families of those killed in this tragic accident and to the Polish soldiers serving in Afghanistan," the statement said.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and 130 people, according to media reports, were killed when his plane crashed in western Russia Saturday morning.
More than 1,900 Polish soldiers have been serving in Afghanistan within the framework of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to help stabilize security in the war-ravaged country.
