The Thai government has imposed a state of emergency in 24 out of the country's total 76 provinces, including capital Bangkok, to ensure security amid political crisis.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva issued a decree to impose the state of emergency late Wednesday on two northeastern provinces of Kalasin and Mukdaharn given the spreading riots there.
The riots have broken out in several locations in Bangkok after some anti-government leaders surrendered to police at about 02:00 p.m., local time, ending the two-month-odd long rally in central Bangkok.
