BRICS Development Bank expected to improve co-op

Establishing a Development Bank of BRICS to enhance cooperation is eye-catching at the March 26 summit of the five emerging economies in Durban, South Africa, according to Isabel Christina Heyvaert, Brazilian ambassador to Ethiopia.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Thursday, the ambassador said the BRICS summit would be deliberating on various issues including health, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and climate change.

"One of the hot issues that are going to be discussed in Durban now for the next conference is the creation of bank of development of BRICS. The idea is to create fund to improve the cooperation with the developing countries.

"Of course it is going to enlarge very much the cooperation of these five countries with the all developing countries," she said, in reference to the grouping of China, India, Russia, Brazil and South Africa.

According to the ambassador, members of BRICS share experiences in various sectors with other countries.

Brazil is has been successful in the agriculture sector and is willing to share its experience with the developing countries.

Asked about cooperation between China and Brazil, the ambassador said the two countries work together in areas including advanced technology, agriculture, health and research and could further strengthen their relations.

"There are many areas where we can work together, as in the sectors of agriculture of high technology. Concerning the latter, China is very much advanced.

"To give an example, Brazil and China signed, last year, a 10- year Agreement of Cooperation in the field of Spatial Cooperation. The length of the agreement is considered, by the analysts, to be unique and exceptional in this sector of cooperation. One of the concrete results of this partnership is the coming launch of the Satellite CBERS-3, in Brazil.

"Our countries also signed, in 2012, the protocol on the financing sector, that allows both countries to swap money, through the creation of a 30-billion-dollar Fund.

"This initiative should be extended to the other BRICS member. The ministers of health of the BRICS countries have been discussing cooperation, particularly transfer of technology and the role of generic medicines.

"Those are only few examples, but there are much more BRICS initiatives on the go, showing that we can establish a very positive and constructive relation," she told Xinhua.
