An Israeli airstrike targeted on Tuesday a Lebanese army center in the southern village of Sarafand, killing three Lebanese soldiers, according to a statement by the Lebanese army on X platform.
The health ministry said that the airstrike also injured eight other people, including civilians residing in surrounding areas.
Lebanese security sources told Xinhua that the incident occurred when an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles at an army post in Sarafand, killing three soldiers from the army's intelligence branch and destroying the post.
This follows an Israeli artillery attack on Sunday that killed two Lebanese army personnel and wounded three others near the town of Mari, in the eastern areas of southern Lebanon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants instructed on Monday Lebanon's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York to file a complaint with the UN Security Council in response to the repeated Israeli targeting of the Lebanese army.
The deaths of the three soldiers have raised the army's death toll to 39 since the beginning of the war on Oct. 8, 2023.
Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has intensified its air attack on Lebanon in an escalation of conflict with Hezbollah. Israel further initiated a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon in early October.
