Wang Xiangfu (王祥夫), born in Fushun in Liaoning Province, is a major modern Chinese novelist, short story writer and essayist. His works include the novel "Durian Durian", the collection of novellas "Angry Apples", and the essay collection "When Can We See The Mountain". He won the third Lu Xun Literature Prize, Fiction Monthly's Baihua Award, Shanghai Literature's Best Short Story, Dianchi Literature Award, Zhao Shuli Literature Award, and he topped the Ranking of Best Chinese Novels in 2011 and 2012 for his short stories "Utterly Confusing" and "Return".
He is a columnist for Guangming Daily, Beijing Evening News, the Journal of Literature and Art and Yang Cheng Evening News. Many of his novels including "Gu Changgen's Last Days" have been translated into different languages and published abroad. Several of his other novels such as "Going To the East Beidou Road" and "Pregnancy" have been made into movies and television shows. Wang is also President of the Yungang Academy of Painting. He has studied painting since childhood.
