A Chinese official has called for the early establishment of a national strategy for disaster precaution and reduction.
The strategy should be a comprehensive and forward-looking one, and it will help to standardize relevant works, Vice Minister of Civil Affairs Luo Pingfei said at a national forum on disaster precaution and reduction Thursday.
The strategy should give comprehensive consideration to all kinds of disasters and relief resources, against the background that the country is faced with increasing disaster risks such as more frequent occurrences of extreme weather conditions and earthquakes, Luo said.
The official also urged efforts to improve public awareness of disaster precaution and reduction by better promotion and education in this regard.
