According to a paper published in Nature of September 3, iPS (induced pluripotent stem) cells have the same totipotency as embryonic stem cells, with Chinese researchers having cloned live mice by introducing quadruple stomata-blastula into the iPS cells of mice.
Totipotency is the ability of a single cell to divide and produce all the differentiated cells in an organism, including extraembryonic tissues. This research finding provides a model for further study of stem cells, regenerative medicine, pathogenesis and animal cloning.
