The Thomson gazelle is a hoofed animal commonly found in African grasslands. Named after explorer Joseph Thompson, it is one of the best-known gazelles identifiable by its distinct black stripe, separating its white belly and brown back fur. It feeds mostly on grass and other vegetation found on the savanna. When threatened by predators, a Thomson gazelle makes high, powerful jumps to intimidate the enemy. Although slower, they can sustain longer bursts of speed than their mortal enemy - cheetah.
