As a top player in the table tennis world, Ding Ning is the youngest member of the Chinese table tennis squad for the London Olympics. Ding was born on June 20, 1990 in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province. Her parents were both professional athletes: Her father was a speed skater and her mother a basketball player. At the age of six, Ding began her table tennis training and nine years later, she enrolled into the national team. Last year, she won the women's singles gold during the World Championships and repeated this fantastic result during the World Cup of that same year. In August of this year, she won the women's team title and got silver in the individual event during the London Olympics.
