Produced in 1999, the film is a dramatization of the real-life story of Brandon Teena, a biologically born female who identified as a man and as transgender, who falls in love with a young lady named Lana Tisdel. However, Teena is raped and murdered by John Lotter, Lana's ex-boyfriend, after he discovers Teena is female. Hilary Swank stars as Brandon Teena and her excellent performances won a lot of awards including Best Actress at the Academy Awards.
