"Unbeatable," directed by Dante Lam, is an inspiring boxing film. It tells the story of a former world boxing champion who escapes to Macao, on the run from the loan sharks, and unexpectedly encounters a youngster who is determined to win a boxing match. The champion becomes the young man's mentor and rediscovers his passion to fight not only in the ring, but also for his own life and those he cares for.
As a mix of tears and laughter amidst the blood and sweat, "Unbeatable" is one of those films that never ceases to excite, entertain and inspire. It is an accomplished effort from a director very much in his prime and also takes a veteran actor to even greater heights.
"Unbeatable" has made over HK$44 million at the Hong Kong box office. It was the highest grossing film of the summer and also the highest grossing locally produced film of 2013.
There's another widely applauded documentary also taking on the subject of boxing -- "China Heavyweight." This production doesn't have the happy ending "Unbeatable" does, but the reality shown in the film also inspires and touches the viewers.
