It's a dark horse and phenomenal film in China. Its Chinese title, "When Beijing Meets Seattle," is much more telling though. The romantic comedy is set largely in Seattle, but was shot in Vancouver, with a few brief scenes in Beijing and New York.
The story tells of a Chinese woman who is sent to the United States to give birth by her married and obscenely wealthy boyfriend. While she is there, she slowly falls for a decent divorced man and rediscovers the values she has given up for material gain.
The ending is a nostalgic tribute to "Sleepless in Seattle," while the overall film is relaxing, smart and witty. The plots follow the Hollywood rom-com routines, either being funny or touching. "Finding Mr. Right" also adds an international feel to it when the exotic elements enter the picture and it discusses some topics currently trending in Chinese society, including materialism, mammonism and love affairs and the bitterness hidden within.
