Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk decided to scrap a visit to the United States on Monday for a nuclear security summit following the death of President Lech Kaczynski in an air crash in western Russia.
"Following the air disaster near Smolensk, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has cancelled his visits to Washington and Canada scheduled for next week," the government press office said.
Kaczynski and 95 others aboard a Tu-154 aircraft died when their plane crashed in thick fog while landing at the Smolensk airport in western Russia.
They are on the way to a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, in which 22,000 Polish officers were killed by Soviet secret police during World War II.
