A survey, commissioned by the company behind dating site Match.com, found the average wait after a date before getting in touch without appearing desperate is 1.52 days, the Daily Mail reported.
The research suggests if you don't hear back in 36 hours after the first date then love is unlikely to be in the cards.
The survey also found that when it comes to who does the asking for a second date, 22 per cent of women wait to be contacted first compared to just 5 per cent of men.
Single ladies are more impatient, with 28 per cent of those surveyed saying that they would sever contact if they didn't get a reply the first time around.
